Use ReacherX to research what investors back before you ask them to look at your company.

An investor can look perfect on paper and still be the wrong person to contact. They might invest at a later stage, work in a different market, or no longer focus on your kind of company.

A little research before the first message can save both of you time.

## Start with your company

Tell ReacherX what you're building, who uses it, where you're based, and the stage you're at. For example:

> We're a two-person team building software for independent clinics. Help me find investors who discuss early-stage health software companies in our market. I want to understand what they look for before contacting them.

Use the details that are true for your company. ReacherX can help find people on X/Twitter and LinkedIn and gather information about their work.

When a person looks promising, check their current firm page and recent posts. Look for the stage and sectors they invest in. An old profile or one similar company in their portfolio doesn't tell you the whole story.

Interactive demo: Check investor fit. Check whether an investor still backs companies at your stage.

## Find a reason to write to that person

What made you put them on your list? A recent post? A problem they said they care about? Experience that relates to your company?

Make that reason part of a short introduction. For example:

> Your post about admin work in small clinics caught my attention. We're building a scheduling tool for that problem. Are you currently looking at companies at our stage?

Don't copy the example's claims unless they're true. Add the details that help this investor understand your company, and [share a short demo](/blog/outreach-with-images-and-video) if it explains more than another paragraph would.

## Keep the follow-up tied to the reply

You can [create an outreach plan](/blog/create-plans-for-several-people) for each person and track the conversation in your investor workspace.

If they ask for a deck, send the deck. If they say you're too early, note what stage they usually consider.
